Wastewater Hauling Program Information

Hauled Wastewater

RV waste, septage, port-a-potty waste, restaurant grease, or any other hauled liquid waste can only be dumped at the Kishwaukee Water Reclamation District treatment facility, 1301 Sycamore Road in DeKalb. Liquid waste may never be discharged into manholes or catch basins.

Before dumping any hauled wastewater except RV waste, YOU MUST APPLY TO THE DISTRICT FOR A PERMIT. In addition to your permit application, you must present, at a minimum:

  • Illinois Department of Public Health Private Sewage Disposal System Pumping Contractor License (for septage, not including port-a-pottys)
  • DeKalb County Septic Plumber's License (only required for DeKalb County septage)
  • Certification of Insurance showing comprehensive automobile and general liability insurance
  • Vehicle registration and liquid capacity of each vehicle that will be used to deliver hauled waste
  • Illinois Driver's License for every driver who will be hauling waste
  • MSDS sheets for port-a-potty chemicals

Hauled waste can be dumped at the KWRD facility from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, except holidays. After-hours or weekend receiving can be accommodated for an additional fee.

Trucks dumping at the facility can have a maximum capacity of 3,000 gallons unless otherwise approved. You do not need an appointment to dispose of septage or port-a-potty waste, but you must provide at least 30 minutes notice before arriving with fats, oils, or grease.

Each time waste is dumped, the hauler must provide a manifest documenting when and where the wastewater was received and a sample of the wastewater for testing.

Waste Hauler Fees

Haulers are billed on a monthly basis:

  • Septage or port-a-potty waste  -  $0.045/gallon
  • Fats, oils, and grease  -  $0.05/gallon

Residents of the KWRD can empty the toilets of their personal recreational vehicles at no cost at the District’s wastewater treatment plant. RV waste can be dumped from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. weekdays, except holidays.

Please stop in at the office the first time to receive instructions on where and how to dump your RV waste.
